FOUNDATIONS FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS NKU is strongly committed to helping students achieve at all levels of their academic careers, from preschool to graduate school. Among the many programs and services the University provides, NKU Community Connections sponsors test preparation courses to help high school students preparing for all-important college admission exams and individuals seeking admission to graduate school, and academic success skills for Middle and High School students. Each fall and spring semester, Community Connections offers ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT and LSAT preparation courses. These programs help students become familiar with the tests, build confidence, raise test scores, and create the motivation to strive for success in achieving goal scores. Courses include an intensive content review in the areas covered by each test, as well as test-taking tips and strategies. Typically, students take practice exams and pre- and post-diagnostic tests to measure areas of strength and weakness, and to measure progress made during the class. Practice tests may be taken as part of the course to simulate the actual test-taking experience. Each summer Community Connections offers Academic Success Skills for Middle School students and separate sessions for High School students. These dynamic workshops present powerful tools and techniques that students can apply to help achieve success in middle school, high school, college and beyond. Topics include learning styles, effective learning strategies and study habits, organizational strategies, and maintaining a positive outlook. Each student receives a handbook of materials that will help them review and apply what is learned in the workshop.
